Ghana and Nigeria will represent Africa at the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Germany later this year. It will be a first time for the Ghanaians while Nigeria keep up their long-standing record of having participated in all of the past editions of the championship.

Nigeria hammered South Africa 7-0 in Sunday’s second leg of their final round tie for an emphatic 12-3 aggregate success. Ghana were more economical in front of goal, but a 3-0 triumph on Friday in Accra ensured an easy passage over the Democratic Republic of Congo, who had been to the last two World Cups. Ghana won 5-0 on aggregate after winning 2-0 in the first leg in Kinshasa a fortnight ago.

Faizer Ibrahim, Elizabeth Cudjoe and Florence Dadson scored the goals in the return match at the Ohene Djan Stadium in the Ghana capital. The Black Princesses were two goals up at half-time and Dadson’s strike completed the scoring in the second stanza.

Falconets finish the job in style
Nigeria had expected a tougher fight against South Africa but romped through with two goals each from Ebere Orji and Glory Iroka in the seven-goal spree. Orji scored her double early on in the game to effectively kill off any hopes of a comeback that the South Africans might have had.

The Falconets, coached by Egan Adat, were in devastating form, and they were five goals to the good by the half-time break after Orji and Iroka’s goals as well as one from defender Gloria Ofoegbu. Ugochi Oparanozie and substitute Uchechi Sunday, with a penalty, added two more in the second half at the National Stadium in Abuja, where the new men’s national team coach Lars Lagerback was in the crowd.

It means that in their four qualifying matches, Nigeria notched up an impressive tally of 22 goals, six of which came from Sunday and five from Orji. Zimbabwe were easily disposed of in the first round by a 10-0 aggregate margin as Nigeria continued their dominance of the continent’s women’s football. They have played at the previous competitions in Canada (2002), Thailand (2004), Russia (2006) and Chile two years ago.

Hassan Shehata can coach Nigeria at the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa™ if he wishes, according to the Egyptian Football Association.

The Pharaohs boss, one of several names that have been linked to the vacant position, last week ruled himself out of the running, citing the unwillingness of his employers to release him on a short-term basis. The 60-year-old was on a preferred list of candidates drawn up by the Nigeria Football Federation following the dismissal of Shaibu Amodu earlier this month.

Six other coaches are also amongst those targeted by the African country – Russia boss Guus Hiddink, reportedly the No1 target, and current Bayern Munich boss Louis van Gaal, who has already stated his non-interest, were initially considered two of the forerunners. Also targeted are Swede Sven-Goran Eriksson, Englishman Peter Taylor, ex-Ghana coach Ratomir Dujkovic and Qatar chief Bruno Metsu.

Nigeria National Football team now got a chance by qualifying to the FIFA World cup 2010. Keeping their terrific history in mind they are supposed to perform their best in this tournament. Ticket4football is providing fans with the full joy of watching the world cup matches live at cheaper rates by offering Nigeria World Cup Tickets online.

Rashidi Yekini (born October 23, 1963 in Kaduna) is a former Nigerian footballer, who played as a striker. After starting his career in the Nigerian league, Yekini moved to Côte d’Ivoire to play for Africa Sports National. From there he went to Portugal and Vitória de Setúbal, where he experienced his most memorable years, eventually becoming the Portuguese first division’s top scorer, in 1993–94, as his performances earned him the title of African Footballer of the Year in 1993, the first ever from the nation.

After the 1994 World Cup, Yekini was bought by Olympiacos CFP, but did not get along with teammates and left. His career never really got back on track, not even upon a return to Setúbal. He successively played with FC Zürich, Club Athlétique Bizertin and Al-Shabab (Saudi Arabia), before rejoining Africa Sports. In 2003, Yekini, at 39, returned to the Nigerian Championship was back in the Nigerian championship, now with Julius Berger.

In 2005, 41-year old Yekini made a short comeback, moving alongside former national teammate Mobi Oparaku to Gateway FC.Scoring 37 goals for Nigeria’s national side, in 70 appearances, Yekini is the national record goalscorer. He was part of the team that participated in the 1994 FIFA World Cup (where he scored Nigeria’s first ever goal in a World Cup, in a 3–0 win against Bulgaria) and the 1998 World Cup.

Additionally, Yekini also helped win the 1994 African Nations Cup, where he also topped the goal charts, and participated at Olympic level, in Seoul 1988.

The league was founded in 1972 with six teams. The league was rechristened the “Professional League” in 1990 with a goal to modernize the game and make clubs self-sufficient. Decrees 10 and 11 which codified the introduction of professional football in Nigeria stipulated that professional clubs should be run as limited liability companies each governed by a regularly-constituted board of directors and required to hold annual general meetings, present independently audited accounts, cultivate youth/feeder teams and own their own stadia within five years of registration with the Pro League Department. To assist Pro League clubs in the timely achievement of these stated goals, all 56 professional clubsides that constituted the inaugural Pro League First and Second Divisions were granted a five-year tax moratorium on all income starting from 1990.

As of the 2002 season the league became known as the Globacom Premier League, due to sponsorship from the Globacom telecomunications company. From 1999-2007, there was an end of season Championship mini-league called the “Super Four”. The top four teams would play a round robin at a neutral site to determine the league champion.

After the 2006 competition, the league changed its calendar to more closely match the common European regular season structure (starting around August and ending around May). ticket4football.com provides football fans with the facility to get Nigeria world cup tickets and football tickets for other soccer events online.

The Africa Cup of Nations, also referred to as the African Nations Cup (ANC) is the main international association football competition in Africa. It is sanctioned by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), and was first held in 1957. Since 1968, it has been held every two years. The title holders at the time of a FIFA Confederations Cup qualify for that competition.

In 1957 there were only three participating nations: Egypt, Sudan and Ethiopia. South Africa were to compete, but were disqualified due to the apartheid policies of the government then in power. Since then, the tournament has grown, making it necessary to hold a qualifying tournament. The number of participants in the final tournament reached 16 in 1998 (16 teams were to compete in 1996 but Nigeria withdrew, reducing the field to 15), and since then, the format has been unchanged, with the sixteen teams being drawn into four groups of four teams each, with the top two teams of each group advancing to a “knock-out” stage.

The 1980 African Cup of Nations was the 12th edition of the African Cup of Nations, the soccer championship of Africa (CAF). It was hosted by Nigeria. Just like in 1978, the field of eight teams was split into two groups of four. Nigeria won its first championship, beating Algeria in the final 3-0. To prove themselves Nigeria National Football team now got a chance by qualifying to the FIFA World cup 2010. Keeping their terrific history in mind they are supposed to perform their best in this tournament. Ticket4football is providing fans with the full joy of watching the world cup matches live at cheaper rates by offering Nigeria World Cup Tickets and football tickets online.

June, 2008: Clearly, Nigeria has the same faces playing for the national team — Super Eagles. However, the team is drastically different in its approach to the game. Coach Shaibu Amodu has returned the team to its old style of exciting soccer and that is exactly what the people have asked for. It is a far cry from the drab display under Coach Berti Vogts where players were restricted from self -expression and the game became a task of “fixing nuts and bolts” instead of “painting with joy.”

In any case, the team still has a long way to go, particularly in a continent where qualification for the World Cup finals is exceedingly difficult. Nigeria probably would be a shoo-in for the finals if it was playing for one of Europe’s berths but that is only a pipe dream.

If you want to try the thrill and game of the Super Eagles you can buy Nigeria world cup tickets online. Ticket4football provides the fans with the easiest way to get their world cup football tickets online.

The 2002 FIFA World Cup in Korea and Japan, saw Nigeria again qualify with optimism. With a new squad and distinctive pastel green kits the Super Eagles were expected to build on their strong performances in the 2000 and 2002 African Cup of Nations. Nigeria were drawn into group F with powerhouses Sweden, Argentina, and England. They started their first game against Argentina with a strong defence and kept the first half scoreless. However in the 61st minute Gabriel Batistuta breached the Nigerian defense to put Argentina in the lead 1-0 and win the game. Nigeria’s second game against Sweden saw them take the lead but later lose 2-1. There was little consolation when Nigeria drew 0-0 with England and bowed out in the first round.

Nigeria missed out on qualification for the 2006 World Cup after finishing level on points in the qualification group with Angola, but having an inferior record in the matches between the sides.

On 14 November, 2009, Nigeria qualified for the 2010 World Cup after defeating Kenya by 3-2 in Nairobi.
